Most people think Duck Mania was made way back in 1999 because that's when the first film was released. Well yes, but technically, no.
One year before it was released, Duck Mania producer Ben Zwalsky, was working on a film called Martian and Dinosaur: The Movie. The movie was based off a small series, obviously being called Martian and Dinosaur. Martian and Dinosaur are the main protagonists, and in the movie, they try to defeat an giant evil cockroach who is terrorizing the lives of tiny blue ducks. Sound vaguely familiar? These were the first sprouting seeds of Duck Mania. One problem though...the film was never released due to technical problems.
The movie was then redone in 1999 under the same title, but the villain wasn't a cockroach, but a red alien monster. This time, Zwalsky was joined by 3 new members, Nick Gilman, Patrick McDermott Welch, and Alex Hadden. The plot was the same basic idea, but the ducks became a much bigger part of the story, making Martian and Dinosaur almost minor characters. The group decided to rename the movie to Duck Mania because of this.
And that's how Duck Mania came to be.
